The essential and desired applicant characteristics are detailed below. The most important requirements are, by far, the ability to write, meet deadlines and standards, flexibility and an enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Essential Skills, Abilities and Experience

• Proven writing talent and ability to write in an informative and captivating manner

• Ability to turn in excellent copy and able to meet deadlines and standards

• High level of attention to detail

• An ability to communicate in Spanish

• Experience of independent travel

• Web savvy

• Highly organized

• Flexible and resilient

• Enthusiasm for travel writing

• Willingness to learn

Preference will also be given to candidates who are able to stay on after the course for an assignment.

Desired Skills, Abilities and Experience

• Writing qualifications (e.g. Journalism degree or M.A.)

• Writing and/or editing experience, preferably published

• Significant experience of independent travel in Latin America

• Intermediate Spanish, or commitment to attend classes as part of the visit to the host country
