The main reason people come out here is because it offers a great chance to see the gentle giants that live here, the West Indian Manatees. There is a large resident population of these lovable "sea cows" that swim in the Southern Lagoon and they are generally easy to spot. Don't expect a thrilling trip, though, because the lazy animals do little but pop their heads out of the water so you will only see a nose or two if you are lucky, and you cannot snorkel with them because they are protected.
