Caye Caulker

Golf carts for transportation. Walking barefoot on white sand roads. Water so blue you would think it isn't real. Welcome to Caye Caulker.

Caye Caulker is a four-mile-long island (approximately seven kilometers), part of a chain of islands that compose the Belize Barrier Reer. In 1961 Hurricane Hattie caused a divide in the island and destroyed most of the houses. The most recent natural disaster of considerable damage was Hurricane Keith in 2000, when for two days it tore through the Caye, leaving nothing but remnants of buildings, boats, and uprooting trees.

Today Caye Caulker is a thriving tourist destination. There is something here for every kind of traveler-from backpacker to luxury-the island offers activities for every budget and every desire. You can take sailing lessons, go diving, relax on the beach, go kitesurfing, or simply sit at a local café and sip a piña colada. Whether it is adventure you crave or are just looking for that spot to watch the sun set over the Caribbean, this island is calling.
