V!VA User‘s Description

Located in the southeast part of Belize, bordering the coast, lies the second largest of Belize's districts, Stann Creek. The area includes the highest point in Belize (Victoria Peak), the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, and the tourist town of Placencia.

The residents of the district are mainly Garifuna-descendents of Carib Indians and African slaves. Other groups that live here include the Maya, Creoles, Guatemalans, and Salvadorians. Banana plantations and a productive citrus industry keep the district's economy thriving.

Belize is not famous for its beaches, but the ones in Stann Creek are perhaps the best in the nation. There is excellent diving off the coast and easy access to the Belizean Barrier Reef.
