MEPE buses run direct to Cahuita from Terminal Gran Caribe in San Jose, and take about 4 hours. Get there early, or buy your ticket ($10) in advance to be sure of your travel, especially on Fridays and weekends. Alternatively, from the same terminal you can go to Limón, and buses from Limón to Cahuita leave every half hour. The last bus goes at 6pm, and after that it’s taxis, which, if you haggle well and share the ride, might not be too pricey. See below for schedules. If driving from San Jose, head north on Calle 3, (3rd street) and follow signs for Limón, it’s a beautiful 2.5hr drive which passes through a cloud forest. Once in Limón, pass the cemeteries and look for signs for Sixaola or Cahuita at a right turn. It’s 45 minutes to Cahuita and you should see the ocean on the left from time to time. See safety section for advice, and should you have any problems or questions, call the local advice line on (506) 2755-0570/8843-8899. Interbus is another option for door-to-door service from your hotel, connecting Cahuita with San José, Fortuna, Sarapiquí, Siquirres and Turrialba from $35. www.interbusonline.com Reservations@interbusonline.com Tel (506)2283-5573 Fax (506)2283-7655 Gray Line also runs a similar service along with some tours. www.graylinecostarica.com Tel (506) 2291-2222 Fax (506) 2520-2549 A more fun option is to book a trip with www.ecoadventuras.co.cr also available via hotels and tour agencies.
