Tortuguero the village serves as the gateway to Tortuguero National Park, and few visitors to Costa Rica will want to pass up exploring one of the richest concentrations of flora and fauna in the Western Hemisphere, offering 300 bird species, including the great green macaw; 57 species of amphibians and 111 of reptiles. Protected species of sea turtles nest their eggs in Tortuguero’s beaches. Volunteering and sightseeing opportunities are abundant.
