Any trip to Tortuguero must include the early morning wildlife trip, which usually begins around 5.30-6am. Motorized boats or paddle canoe take tourists around the canals and although both mix together on the water the paddle canoes can go into some places motorboats cannot. Expect to see and get close to herons, eagrets, lizards, monkeys, caimans and maybe a toucan.
