This 12 kilometer, bumpy stretch of costal road takes you through the tropical jungle past some world-famous, beautiful beaches. This nature-lovers paradise is dotted with jungle lodges and attractive bungalows, and you can find everything here from exquisite Italian restaurants to typical Caribbean sodas. A mix of people are attracted to this part of the area; there are the surfers coming to hit the waves on Cocles beach, divers wanting to check out the reef at Manzanillo and of course the honeymooners coming for a relaxing week away in paradise. Also found in this area are many health retreats and holistic centers, offering massage, yoga, alternative therapies and alternative medicines. Nature enthusiasts also come to see the abundance of tropical wildlife, birds and plants, as well as howler monkeys, sloths and toucans. Many places rent bikes, and there are a few taxis in the area, too. Remember it is not advised to walk the road or the beaches at night, especially in the Cocles to Puerto Viejo area.
