You'll be spoiled for choice for places to stay in Puerto Viejo, with most accommodation in typical cabins, or cabinas, situated in the centre and out towards Playa Cocles. Most hotels have hot, often solar-powered showers, a kitchen for guests' use, secure parking, laundry, internet and tour booking services. Breakfast is not normally included but top-quality coffee can be found free all day at almost every reception desk. Prices are very reasonable across the board, and although the cost for singles and doubles is generally about the same, budget places usually only charge per person. Security is a big issue in this town, and friendly, English speaking staff will ensure the safety of your belongings be it in the rooms or in safe boxes. Most places have locked gates at night, often with a guard. You won't find 24hr reception desks, but someone will always be around until late evening, and if going out, check if you need a key for the gate. Dollars and visa/credit cards are widely accepted.
