Puerto Viejo great stay!

My husband and I went for a long weekend fith another couple of friends. We stayed in two separated bedrooms. King bed. Very nice hotel, clean organized.. We got earlier and we got assigned the rooms since they were available already... Also, the day we were leaving, we asked th staff if there was any problem of checking out later that 12, so we could enjoy more, and they allowed us to keeo one of the two bedrooms until 2pm. Excelent Service, and friendly staff..

A little piece of Paradise!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Totem because our first choice was booked, boy are we glad that happened. Totem Hotel is THE BEST location in Playa Cocles. While almost all of the hotels are on the opposite side of a very dusty dirt road away from the beach, as is Totem. It is the only hotel we saw that you could walk out of, cross the road and have your feet in the sand. (the sand is 15 feet from the entrance) Most of the beach at Playa Cocles is bordered by 10-100feet of forest. The small area in front of Totem Hotel is the only place in the area that has direct beach access. You can watch the waves during breakfast. There are two small pools and a cool shaded area with hammocks to lounge in. It is tropical, quiet and you can hear howler monkeys and jungle nightlife during the night. Both pools were clean and fun to relax in. The rooms were cute and comfortable. For anyone complaining of bugs or other creatures....welcome to Costa Rica. All of the hotels in this area are set back in the jungle and small lizards and bugs are bound to end up in your room at some point. If this bothers you, Costa Rica is not your kind of place. That is not to say that the rooms are dirty or infested with creatures, which ours was not. It was clean. But we did find some sort of centipede under the bed and a bat on our front porch :)....they are all over the area. This is not the fault of the hotel. However, please note that this hotel is jungle rustic and not the Ritz Carlton. We ate at the restaurant for dinner one night and found the food to be ok! I would recommend this hotel highly to anyone prizing the best location in the area, who enjoys a taste of tropical paradise and a laid back atmosphere. As a final side note: About 5 minutes south of this hotel is an animal shelter run by a local woman. For 10$ you can see some of the countries most poisonous snakes and PLAY WITH BABY MONKEYS!!!! It was possibly the best two hours of my life. As Niko at the Totem Hotel for directions!!!!
