This 12km bumpy stretch of costal road takes you through the tropical jungle past some world-famous beautiful beaches. This nature-lovers paradise is dotted with jungle lodges and attractive bungalows and you can find everything from exquisite Italian restaurants to typical Caribbean sodas. A mix of people are attracted to this part of the area; there are the surfers coming to hit the waves on Cocles beach, divers wanting to check out the reef at Manzanillo and of course the honeymooners coming for a relaxing week away in paradise. Also along this way are found many health retreats and holistic centers, offering massage, yoga, alternative therapies and alternative medicines. Nature enthusiasts also come to see the abundance of tropical wildlife, birds and plants and howler monkeys, sloths and toucans are often seen. Many places rent bikes and there are a few taxis in the area too, and remember it’s not best advised to walk the road or the beaches at night, especially in the Cocles to Puerto Viejo area.
