There are many places to rent bicycles and some hotels provide their own. Sunrise, for example, has a good selection of new bikes. Tienda Marcos and Tuanis both supply registered bikes in good condition, but require a deposit of an ID or passport. Expect to pay around 2,000 colones ($4) for a full day, which is 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., or 2,500 colones ($5) for 24 hours. Be aware, the absence of brake handles has panicked many speeding cyclists! The trick is to pedal backwards.
