It seems Puerto Viejo has an endless amount of easily accessible restaurants all serving really good food! A great variety of cuisine can be found, from sushi to curry to Thai food. Mostly you'll find typical Caribbean casados, dishes of coconut-milk-cooked rice and beans with a meat. Also popular around town is freshly caught seafood, hearty breakfasts and international dishes such as pizzas, pastas and salads. There are also many vegetarian restaurants. Generally kitchens are open from midday to 9 or 10pm with breakfast cafés opening about 7am. Prices range to suit all budgets, and although nothing is cheap in Puerto Viejo, often it works out cheaper to eat in a small 'soda' than to go to the supermarket. Look out for street stalls and vendors carts for local fruits and other yummy snacks.
