Atec- Ecotourism and Conservation Association for Talamanca. - Tour Operator Puerto Viejo - Costa Rica

ATEC supports locally owned businesses, associations and families with the aim of promoting conservation through education. It is on the main street crossing through Puerto Viejo and offers activities in four categories: adventure, cultural activities, guided wildlife hikes and overnighters.

Prices are fairly modest and proceeds go back to the community. The extensive and interesting list of tours includes waterfall hikes ($25/35/60), kayaking in Punta Uva ($35/80), CarribeanCaribbean cooking ($20) and a transcontinental hike over the Talamancan mountains. See dolphins, turtles, exotic birds or learn traditional bush medicines ($30/40).

There are English speaking guides for some tours, but translators and English speaking volunteers are available. Note that in order to encourage tourists to use public transportation, transport to these tours may not necessarily be included, though it can be arranged.
