Overview

This is a must-do in some form or another. There are varying tour offers, some combining the hot springs, but most set off around 3:15 pm for a walk in the rainforest then arrive at a viewpoint close to the volcano for sunset to watch the red rocks spewing out of the crater (clear skies permitting). Whatever the weather in La Fortuna, there is no guarantee that the volcano will be visible and tours claim lava can be seen 95% of the time. A cheaper alternative is with Happy Tours, which offers transportation to a viewpoint at night for $10p/p, or take a cab.

Cost

$25, but prices can vary.
