La Fortuna de San Carlos, or simply La Fortuna, is the general starting point for visiting the Arenal Volcano, and features its own attractions, such as the Tabacon hotsprings. Naturally heated by Arenal, offers a pleasurable vantage point to experience the volcano's nocturnal fireworks.
In addition, just nearby, travelers can access the Venado caves and the Catarata de la Fortuna waterfalls, 70 meters (230 feet) high.
La Fortuna's popularity has ensured a high availability and variety of accommodations, as well as tourist outfits providing hiking, kayaking, boating, and many other outdoor-oriented excursions.
