Los Altos and Chocolate

By Sandra Scott

There is a secret place between heaven and earth, but like all secrets it is best when shared. On the Altos de Pinella in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is Los Altos de Eros, where guests can relax in chocolate heaven. It is the epitome of chocolate decadence.

The day begins with the call of the howler monkey and ends watching the stars reflecting in the shimmering pool. The strains of Andrea Bocelli make it so magical you will think you can fly.

But between the howler monkey and Bocelli is a spa day that is a chocolate dream. It starts with a walk down the teak steps at the end of the swimming pool to the lush and tropical Spa de Eros. The Spa has been meticulously carved from the side of a hill. The views of the ocean and the tropical forest are breathtaking and calming, inducing feelings of tranquility. Truly a place between heaven and earth. Actually, it is heaven on earth.

The water falls over the natural stone from the hilltop pool, splashing into a small pool where hibiscus flowers float. The scents of jasmine and sandalwood fill the air. Soft music melds with the sounds of nature.

The day of chocolate decadence starts with Spa de Eros’ aromatic signature massage—so soothing, so relaxing, so rejuvenating. Naturally, only pure and natural ingredients are used. What follows is beyond the wildest imagination of the chocolate lover. Nothing surpasses the luxury of soaking in the Balinese tub with the spa’s specially prepared “Chocolate Decadence,” soothing waters with chocolate, essential oils, flowers, and the scenery to take you to a place of supreme tranquility.

Just when you think it can’t be any better—it does. While soaking in the Jacuzzi, gazing in wonder at the view, the gourmet lunch arrives.  And, what a lunch it is! An array of fresh fruit, mahi mahi, and salad is accompanied by a chocolate fruity smoothie and wine.  Then it gets better—the dessert arrives—Chocolate Terrine, an elegant combination of four great flavors—chocolate, chocolate, raspberry and chocolate!

After lunch, the hedonistic chocolate spa day continues with the ultimate in facials, the “Chocolate Dream” facial that cleans, tones, and moisturizes the skin. What a dreamy, relaxing, rejuvenating chocolate day!

Los Altos de Eros is a treat for all one’s senses.  The staff of this luxurious property focuses on personal attention. It is a special place where the location, the service, and ambiance are unsurpassed. And, for the chocolate lover, it is Chocolate Heaven.
