Plane

Given the mountainous terrain of much of the country, small planes are a common way to reach several destinations. However, be aware that you may be in for a bumpy ride. There are two domestic airlines: Sansa (www.flysansa.com), which operates out of a terminal next to the Juan Santamaría Airport in San José, and Nature Air (www.natureair.com), whose flights depart from the Tobias Bolaños Airport in the San José suburb of Pavas. Sansa has a checked baggage allowance of 27 lbs./12kgs. For Nature Air, it depends on the kind of ticket you purchase, but the cheapest one has a limit of 15 1bs/6.81 kgs. Some companies, such as Alfa Romeo Aero Taxi (www.alfaromeoair.com) have small planes available for charter.

Be sure to make reservations well in advance for flights during the high season (late November to late April)
