It may have world-class waves for surfers, but venture deeper into the country and you will discover a system of rivers that are able to offer superior rafting and kayaking conditions. Adventure and adrenaline are just mere paddle strokes away. No matter your skill level, tours are offered to suit your abilities.
All white-water classes ranging from I to IV can be experienced on Costa Rican rivers. Some of the more popular being Reventazon, Pcuare and Corobici, which can send rafters through exciting and thrilling rapids, or on smooth water perfect for giving those arms a rest and eyes a chance to glance around at the lush surroundings. A trip down the Toro River will give experienced rafters a non-stop rush on rocking rapids of class 3 and 4 down a canyon while a ride down Peñas Blancas River is tranquil and calm the entire time. Half-day to multi-day white-water rafting trips in Costa Rica can be organized with tour companies.
With a kayak you are free to roam every inch of water in Costa Rica. Paddle along the coastline during a sea-kayaking tour or brace yourself as you use all your muscles during a white-water kayak trip. Glide easily through mangroves in the Osa Peninsula and Gulfo Dulce keeping an eye out for all the wildlife that exists in the diverse habitat that neighbors the ocean. You could also get lucky and spot a dolphin during a sunset paddle or become an explorer as you navigate the canals at the Tortuguero National Park. There are plenty of options for full and half-day tours, as well as multi-day adventures to see the Costa Rican diversity with a stroke of a paddle.
