Train

Most of Costa Rica´s railroad lines were severely damaged by the 1991 earthquake, and remained inactive for most of the following two decades. But in the last five years, INCOFER (Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles) has repaired and restored some routes. Currently they only operate a few suburban commuter lines into and out of San José.

American Travel (www.americatravelcr.com) is a private company that offers weekend tourist trains from San José to the Pacific Coast.
