Shopping Summary

Most shops here are focused on surfing. The South Wave Surf Shop rents boards for $10-$15 for 24-hours and also sells a huge variety of boards, boogie boards, surfing accessories and beachwear, in all the most popular brands. You can also buy ding repair kits, wax, leashes, pads, fins, bags, roof racks, and sun protection. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a serious surfer, you can still look like one, as they sell sun glasses, rash tops, board shorts, sandals, and souvenir merchandise too. The shop is located next to the El Coco Restaurant in front of the last bus stop and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact 2787-0260 or check out www.southwave-surfshop.com. You can also pick up similar gear from the Pineapple Surf Shop (2787-0302) and Blow Fish (2787-0420).

For health and fitness supplies try the Bambootique opposite the school. The store specializes in yoga wear, you can get pants for men and women, tops, skirts, and other pieces from the Beyond Yoga brand, with prices starting from $50. Organic cotton t-shirts, tanks ($20) and canvas bags ($15) are a little cheaper. Eco-friendly anti-slip mats are sold for $50. They’re good for travel and come in six different colors. Mat bags (with a pocket) are $35. However you can get both a mat and a bag for $75. You can order OmGym yoga swings from Bambootique or online at orgy@bambodancer.com. Don’t forget to check out www.bamboodancer.com/bambootique.

Along the beach (more so during the high season), local people set up stalls and sell souvenirs, crafts, sarongs, jewelry, etc. The stalls create a festive atmosphere and are fun to check out even if you have no money to spend (but prices are pretty reasonable so you might find a bargain anyway). The little Pueblo del Rio complex is home to the pharmacy, medical centers, a few clothes shops and this is a good place to get extra essentials. If you’re not a surfer or interested in yoga, you can still buy fashionable clothes from the surf shops or purchase Costa Rican mementos from souvenir stores. Toucan Souvenirs and Gifts, between the Blowfish Surf Shop and San Clemente Bar & Grill, sell a variety of Costa Rican keepsakes, such as woodwork products, jewelry, coffee, and postcards, for reasonable prices. They accept credit cards.
