Overview
This is a spectacular national park and one of Costa Rica's unique places. A one-hour run on a bumpy road from Liberia, the mostly forested park offers several pleasant long treks to waterfalls with swimming holes and views across to Lake Nicaragua, but the best part is a two-hour circular route that takes in mud pools, boiling fumeroles and a mini mud-spitting volcano. Awesome.

$6 entry, $10 transport with Hostel Liberia.
