Carate, about 50 km south of Bahia Drake, is nothing more than an entry point to Corcovado National Park. It consists of the landing strip, a pulperia and a smattering of exclusive lodges and resorts about the area. Carate is popular for its isolation, natural beauty and abundance of wildlife. This area of the park is also the only place to go tapir-spotting. It is about a 40-minute walk from Carate to the La Leona Ranger Station within Corcovado, and from there it's another four hours to the La Sirena station.
