Tracopa buses make the 8 hour trip from San Jose to Golfito (and back) a few times a day. Tel (San Jose):2 222-2666. In high season you can also take Tracopa buses from Golfito to Zancudo and Pavones.
You can fly regional airlines Sansa or Nature Air into the small Golfito airport from other major cities.
A $4 ferry goes back and forth between Golfito and Puerto Jimenez every hour or so from about 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. One boat leaves Golfito at 12 p.m. daily for Zancudo from the dock in front of Samoa del Sur. The ride is 30 minutes, $4 (2000 c).
You can take a private taxi boat to locations such as Puerto Jimenez, Zancudo Playa Cacao and the Orchid garden. If you are just interested in a day trip all you need to do is call the agency an hour so in advance for pick up. The agency also offers tours of places like Rio Esquinas and Rio Coto Colorado.
