Rainy / low season lasts from about April through November. May and October are the wettest months, but October beats May by a longshot. Dry / high season lasts from December through March, with December being the busiest month. Mid-range and high-end lodges lower their prices during the rainy season. However, transportation and access to certain activities becomes more difficult in rainy season due to flooding, and sometimes domestic flights are also suspended during heavy rains.
Easter week and virtually the entire month of December are celebrated in Costa Rica. On Good Friday everything shuts down – there are no buses running, restaurants and other businesses close, and it is illegal to sell alcohol.
Dec. 31st-Jan. 2nd, the Fiesta de los Diablitos is celebrated near Sierpe by the indigenous Boruca people. For this festival villagers act out a fight / dance between the indigenous people of the Osa, represented by villagers in traditional painted masks, and the Spaniards, represented by someone dressed as a bull. The fight / dance is set to music and ends when the Borucas finally capture the bull.
You can go dolphin and whale watching here year-round. The best months are every month except April, May and June.
