At present Piedras Blancas has little touristic infrastructure and is one of the less visited parks in Costa Rica, though it posseses the same biological riches as its more popular neighbor Corcovado. There are a few different ways to access the park, the easiest being to go through the main office in La Gamba near Palmar Sur. From here you can access the network of trails and see what the park has to offer first hand. There are three other entry points: chacarita, esquinas and bonito.

Piedras Blancas is home to animals such as collared peccaries, pacas and agoutis, jaguars, vampire bats, ocelots and monkeys (capuchin, squirrel and howler). This area also supports an immense variety of waterfowl and other birds, more than 360 species, including the brown and the red-footed booby, yellow-billed and turquoise cotingas, yellow-billed and scarlet-rumped caciques, bananaquits, as well as various species of manakins, flycatchers, vireos, honeycreepers, tanagers, orioles, grosbeaks, buntings and euphonies.


There are a few eco-lodges in or near Piedras Blancas that provide a more extended, intimate experience with this part of the rain forest. The Esquinas Rainforest Lodge, located inside the park itself, is an excellent choice. It was created by Rainforest of the Austrians with the aim that it will one day be owned an operated entirely by the community of La Gamba, providing the village with an eco-friendly, sustainable means of subsistence.
