This 62,700 hectare reserve, though not of great touristic importance, has great ecological importance for the Osa.  It acts as a biological corridor between the Corcovado and Piedras Blancas National Parks, making it an important habitat and migration path for certain animals, including a few species of big cat. 

The reserve is accessible from either Puerto Jimenez or Chacarita, and although it has no public facilities, you won’t have much trouble finding a guided tour in Puerto Jimenez. In fact, many of the local hotels and lodges offer hikes in the reserve as one of their tours or activities. One lodge close to the reserve is The Suital Lodge, which has dozens of acres of private land and its own network of trails (www.suital.com).

Besides hikes in the rainforest, visitors can enjoy walks along the beach or go swimming in the reserve’s rivers or bays. The Reserva Forestal is also a good place for seeing wildlife. Monkeys are common, as well as tapirs, coatis, peccaries and many types of birds.
