Eco-Tour
V!VA User‘s Description
This is one of the rare activities you can do for free around Monteverde. The only actual cost is the bus fare it will take to get there. On the edge of the Monteverde Reserve, the gallery houses more than 100 hummingbirds from 14 different varieties. Get out your camera, because when they hover around the feeders they give photographers the opportunity to snap a rare shot of the fast-flying creatures.
Cost: Free
Round-Trip Bus Fare: 600 Colones/US$1.20
I wanted to spend so much more time just enjoying looking at the hummingbirds outside the gallery. I could hardly believe the number and variety of birds buzzing around my head and taking turns at the feeders. My only problem was that I also wanted to see the art in the gallery and some of the other sights in town.
A must stop while in Monteverde. Guaranteed to see a number of hummingbird species whizzing around. Gift shop is full of nature-related items: books, earrings, t-shirts. Nice items, but hummers are the real attraction.
