"Monteverde" literally means "Green Mountain" and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most spectacularly verdant sites in Central America. Tall trees host blooms of orchids, ferns, vines, and other growth.  Streams, rapids, and waterfalls cut through the forest which is home to jaguars, ocelots, tapirs and many rare birds.  Actually, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve hosts more than a 100 species of mammals and 400 species of birds, not to mention 2,500 species of plants (over 400 of them orchids).
