Gay scene
Although red-blooded people from all walks of life are lured here, Manuel Antonio has become particularly known as a popular destination for gay and lesbian tourists. This reputation is fostered by the many quality businesses that are owned, operated, and serviced by people who are gay or lesbian, and the local gay community which has sprung up as a result. This has created an excellent array of options for travelers, enabling people the chance to identify, socialize, and relax within the atmosphere of their desire. A popular destination for many is the Casa Blanca resort. Exclusively designed for gay/lesbian clients (and their family and friends) the hotel is a member of the International Gay/Lesbian Travel Association and the International Gay Lesbian Human Rights Commission Emergency Network. Villa Roca is also a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, as well as the International Ecotourism Society. All guests and visitors must be 18 years or older and the staff can make gay tour reservations for you. There is a gay beach called Playitas on the opposite end of Manuel Antonio National Park. Although it has a slight reputation for nudity, people are expected to keep their pants on there. Entertainment-wise, the best time to catch parties is the busy months from Thanksgiving through to Easter. Sometimes Villa Roca has pool parties and the Tutu Bar hosts parties throughout the year. Think cabaret, strip shows, dance, DJs and theme parties.
Try emailing crcircuitparties@hotmail.com for more information or get your hands on “Playita Gay Guide” - a guide produced by Gay Tours Costa Rica and published every 2 months during the high season (www.GayToursCR.com). You can usually pick a copy up from the Tutu Bar and gay-friendly accommodations.
