Getting around
There are 10 car rental companies in Manuel Antonio and Quepos. If renting, get a 4x4 so you can get down some of those rocky beach access roads. Fast Eddie’s Scooter Rentals in Quepos charge $35 for a minimum of three hours and $55 for 24 hours (Tel: 2777-4127).
The bus between Quepos and Manuel Antonio is reliable, frequent and costs less than 50 cents. From 7 a.m. 'til 7 p.m. the bus leaves for the beach and park every half hour. From Manuel Antonio, the bus leaves on the hour and every 25 minutes after the hour, ending at 7:25 p.m. Over the weekend, late-night runs from Quepos are at 9:30 p.m. and from Manuel Antonio at 10 p.m. Exact bus times are a bit flexible, but if you miss your ride, well the next one won't be far off. Taxis here have meters (nicknamed “Maria”), so get the driver to turn it on if you don’t know what the charge should be. From Quepos to the beach it’s roughly about $6. There are lots of pirate taxis that hang around behind the bus station. They don’t have meters or insurance so it’s best to hop in the official that are red and labeled. Some hotels offer a free shuttle service to the beach and park for their clients.
