Costa Rica is a nature lover's paradise, with plenty of opportunities to get out and explore remote tracts of rainforests, or encounter exotic birds and jungle wildlife. South of San José and past San Isidro de El General and Palmar North by bus, or from Sierpe to Bahía Drake by boat, is the Osa Peninsula, an area dominated by verdant rainforests inhabited by a stunning variety of birds and wildlife. The area includes Parque Nacional Corcovado, which boasts the Reserva Biológica Isla del Caño, and some of the best rainforest trekking and trails in the country. The peninsula can also be reached from Puerto Jiménez, a popular frontier town with its own local flavor. Tours can be arranged in Puerto Jiménez, San José, or through international agencies, and include hiking and trekking, canoeing, birdwatching, and wildlife excursions.
