San José’s restaurants are as varied as those of any cosmopolitan city, both in selection and budget. Chinese, French, Italian – it’s all here. Those in search of “authentic” Costa Rican cuisine might be surprised that it is not spicy like Mexican. Variations of rice, bean, and lean meat plates, with assortments of fresh vegetables are common. Freshly squeezed or blended juice is also common.
