The unique draw to Volcan Turrialba is the solitude the second largest active volcano in Costa Rica presents, along with the three craters that sit in the bowl. Volcan Turrialba is presently undeveloped for tourism, and though a few unmarked trails exist, it is best to hire a guide for a full tour of the area. Hiking trails lead into the craters and up to the summit of the volcano. It is advised to bring extra warm clothes, since the top of the volcano can be chilly with variable conditions.
