Located on the south side of the Plaza de la Revolucion is the gigantic Memorial and Museo Jose Marti. Although at first it may appear to be a symbol of the revolution, it was commissioned long before. It was finally finished in 1958, one year ahead of the revolution. The monument is the main focus of the square and dominates over it at 139 meters tall. The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday and houses a significant volume of memorabilia from the life of Marti.
