Hiking in Vinales

For information about guided hikes in and around ViƱales, head to Museo Municpal Adela Azcuy. The museum offers five hikes daily, guided in English and Spanish. The hikes start at 9 a.m. or 3 p.m., sometimes a little earlier depending on the availability of guides. The hikes offer an opportunity to get out into the valley among the local farming communities and observe local life, as it has operated for decades. Some of the hikes provide the chance to see cigars being made and the whole tobacco farming process. The same hike that offers this allows you to climb a mogote and hike through a cave, descending on the other side of this steep hill. Other hikes allow for more endemic birdlife spotting, while others focus solely on visits to farms. The longest hikes last for three to 3.5 hours. Shorter hikes are just an hour or so in duration. One of the hikes (De la Mano del Guajiro) requires transportation, so you need to pay for a taxi in addition to your hike, unless you are renting a car. The hikes cost 8 CUC per person, and only run if there are two people or more.

Hiking on Mogotes

I did one of these hikes, and it was a great opportunity to get out into the countryside and interact with some of the locals. The hike that I did included the chance to climb a mogote and head through a cave, which was really cool. I would recommend these hikes.
