All-inclusive Resort Lodge
The LTI Beach Resort is one of several all-inclusive mega-hotels located on the gorgeous white-sand beaches of the Dominican Republic. In November, 2008, it will change its name to VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. It is a four-star hotel featuring over 400 rooms, four restaurants (including one large buffet-style place that could feed a small army at once), tennis courts, a spa, dive shop and a large, well-kept pool. There are wooden shelters with thatched roofs on the beach, which is nicely maintained.
There are nightly shows, which vary greatly in quality and theme: you might get anything from a Michael Jackson impersonator to a mindless newlywed game-show sort of thing where couples are asked to go up and make fools of themselves. There are several bars located all around the premises: you’re never more than a few feet away from a piña colada.
As Punta Cana all-inclusive resorts go, the LTI is sort of middle-of-the-road. It’s fancy enough that the food is decent and the facilities are nice, but cheap enough that they use vile powdered orange-flavored drink instead of real orange juice in the bars and restaurants. There is an on-site travel agency of sorts where you can book day trips like snorkeling, diving or visits to Santo Domingo.

We spent a week there. The rooms were okay, but the other facilities, such as the restaurants and lounges, were nice. Service was so-so. The cleaning maids were terrible. They cleaned, but they like to shout to one another across the building courtyards, and if you put the do not disturb sign on your door, they never come back for a second look to see if you've gone back out. The food was pretty good, but the juices were lousy. Come on, it's the tropics! How expensive is it to use real orange juice instead of Tang? Overall, it's okay. Sort of middle-of-the-road. I'm sure you could do a lot worse.
