Antigua Things to See and Do

follow us

Antigua is a small town by many standards but the amount of restaurants, bars, museums, Spanish schools, and hikes make it a unique and engaging place to spend a week, or a year.

Students who are learning Spanish in Antigua will probably find that their days are occupied with hours of study but their off time can fill up fast. Many Spanish schools offer Salsa lessons included in the price of language classes. If not, there are several schools around town that will be happy to teach you the basic steps, and if you’re staying for awhile, you can get more advanced.

The museums in this colonial town are rich in culture. Spending a day wandering around the Ayuntamiento and the Museo de Santiago will allow you to experience the truly complex and interesting the history of Antigua. Paseo de los Museos, possibly the most impressive museum in town, can be perused in a few hours but if you have the time it's nice to lingering here a little longer. The museum, that was once a convent, has lovely grounds and is full of little nooks—it could keep you busy for days.

If you’re inching to get out of town and explore, the area surrounding Antigua has a variety of activities to choose from. Because of the diverse avian population, birders from all over the world are attracted to the four volcanoes that surround the city. Hikers can choose to ascend active volcanoes or climb to the Cerro de la Cruz for a stunning view of Antigua.
