Hidden at the end of a small side street, Hotel la Casa de Don Ismael is worth finding. Although somewhat dated, its genuinely friendly and accommodating staff more than compensate for its lack of modern style. The six cozy rooms are clean and comfortable. Complimentary breakfast is served in the small central courtyard from 7 am until 10 am. From the rooftop terrace the peak of volcán de agua is visible. The 24 hour reception area also serves as a tourist information center. WiFi is available.
La Casa de Don Ismael offers comfortable lodging in a family-style setting, and is a great option for those traveling on a more conservative budget. The house is located on a side street half a block away from Calzada de Santa Lucia, the main street on the western side of town. It is a locally owned family business started in 1996 by Don Ismael, who makes sure guests are tended to and treated like family. The rooftop terrace offers majestic views of El Volcán de Agua and the surrounding city, and is a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast (included in room rates).
The best thing about this place, tucked away down a small side street in the centre of town, is its lush green courtyard which is surrounded by the well appointed rooms. You pay for the pleasant setting but it may be worth it if you want a peaceful place to chill out for a while.

The manager, made the reservation for me, then forgot about it, then put us up across the street in somebody's home (with 7 kids and only one toilet.) Real sly move, and very sneaky about it all. The next night, he gave us a room in the actual hotel we made reservations in, which was worse! The bed sheets were like grocery sack paper, the pillows stained, community toilet was just plain weird because as soon as you used the toilet, somebody would run in there and adjust the toilet paper and make sure the toilet flushed completely. Very embarrassing, it brought my girlfriend to tears! Horrible room for the money.
