Through a hole in the wall on Antigua’s East Side lies the shadowy world of Café No Sé.
The eatery has the feel of a Tarantino film, of a border town dive whose regular crowd consists of ex-pats, wanna-be ex-pats, travelers, locals and enough shady characters to make things interesting. Bizarre art and photographs, images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and other eclectic touches cover the walls.
Recently listed in the Guinness Book of Third World Records as the "Taj Mahal of Tequila", Café No Sé serves over 30 kinds of tequila and mezcal, plus Gallo and Moza beer on tap, in three bars inside a long, shotgun-style building.
The bar in front features live music every night around 9 p.m., which spills into the other bars and attracts as many Antiguans as it does tourists. In the next room, a gnarled wood bar stretches 15 feet and is illuminated with candelabras that cast weird shadows on the unfinished wooden walls.
The music is just loud enough that you can hear the lyrics and simultaneously carry on a conversation.
Bar food, they call it. But with a twist. No Se’s tacos and quesadillas are based on cochinita pibil, a smokey pork dish from Yucatan. Other tasty selections include tortilla soup, chili, salads and sandwiches.
For a quiet meal, you can dine in the back room, where a small garden is illuminated by a skylight.
Whether you’re in town to party, study, see the sights or just make trouble, Café No Sé is the place to kick off a fun night on the town in Antigua.

I don't know. The best bar in Antigua with live music every night. Tequila and Mezcal bar in the back and great food all around. Plus, there is a handy bookstore open in the daytime for travel literature and other good reads. Should be your first and last stop with daily visits in between.
For a different night, a bit outside the center of Antigua Guatemala, Café No Sé is a place where, depending on the night you could sip coffee and listen to some live light jazz or blues and the next get threatened by an overly indulged expat, the marvels of mezcal twinkling in his deranged eyes (this rarely happens, yet the establishment is full of mostly eccentric expats). Eat a pinch of chillied grasshoppers with some lime to wash down the grog, play with friendly dogs (Pulque, Anoche, Alfombra and Feo), and marvel at the unique rules and selling points on their advertisements (uncomfortable chairs, deviant behavior, bad attitudes, no ugly women, great coffee, deranged staff). No matter how they advertize, this joint is a blast, and now carries its own brand of "illegal" mezcal. Do not miss its Sunday brunch.
I don't know what I would have done in Antigua had I not discovered No Se! It's a fun bar with live music every night...I had never tasted mezcal before, but now I am addicted. Definitely my favorite bar in Antigua.
Eclectic, sultry, noisy, hot staff, kick-ass live music, beers on tap, world's best nachos, ilegal mezcal, infusions, confusion, bar-slapping, crowded, bedroom eyes, bad jokes, tiny tables, same same but different every night...hard to stay away from the place, but c'est la vie.
Café No Sé is one of those odd little places run by strange American ex-pats and frequented by strange American ex-pats. It is a perfect example of a dirty jewel in Antigua's crown. If you're in Antigua you really can't miss it.
