Getting Around

There are two boat docks that ferry visitors to Lago Atitlan's surrounding villages. The first is located at the end of Calle del Embarcadero where boats leave to Santa Cruz (10 minutes), Jaibalito (25 minutes), Tzununa (25 minutes) and San Marcos (45 minutes). The second dock is located at the end of Calle Rancho Grande. Here there is ferry and lancha service to Santiago Atitlan. Visitors will barter for a price, which can be between $2-5. It is best to barter directly with the boat capitan, and not with the various locals that will attempt to lead you to the boat, then offer to negotiate on your behalf and extract a $1-2 fee for their services. Boats depart from here at 6:30, 9, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and 1, 3, 4:30 and 5 p.m. Return trips from Santiago are scheduled at 6, 7 and 11:45 a.m., as well as 12:30, 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Taxi and shuttle service is also an option.
