San Pedro La Laguna Services

Tourism Office

Strangely enough, San Pedro does not have an official tourist office. There is a small wooden shack located by the Panajachel dock which offers some information about the town and employs registered guides, all of whom are willing to offer a service or suggest a hotel. More specific information regarding recreational activities, pricing and options, as well as transportation services may be obtained from one of the many travel agencies including Casa Verde Tours or Big Foot Adventures.

The bank, Banrural, is located in town just past the market. Getting there on foot requires simply heading straight up the hill from the Panajachel Dock or hopping in a tuk-tuk for a door-to-door service.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5p.m. Saturday 8:30a.m.-12p.m.

Exchange Rate: $1=Q 8.21, Travelers Checks: $1=Q8.23

There are currently two ATM’s in San Pedro; one is located beside the bank, the other beside D’Noz by the Panajachel dock. A word to the wise: when using the ATM’s exercise caution and closely monitor your accounts as incidents of bank fraud have been reported.

Like most everything in San Pedro, even the Post Office lacks an official address but may be found in the vicinity of the large white Catholic Church in the center or town.

Hours: Monday- Saturday 8a.m. -1p.m. and 4p.m – 6p.m.

A number of internet cafes are scattered around town, most offering international calls. Although varied, the approximate cost is $1/hour for internet and $0.25 per minute for calls t the US and Canada.

There are a variety of locations offering laundry services so take your pick. The average cost is approximately $0.50 per pound.

While there is no hospital in San Pedro there are two Public Health Centers (Centres de Salud); one is located near the Catholic Church, the other, larger one is on the way to San Juan. Both offer free services but do not include the cost of prescribed medicines.

A number of pharmacies, including the Farmacia La Fe near the market, offer a wide selection of prescription drugs without requiring an official prescription.

In addition, there are two private doctors practicing services for a fee. For
more serious concerns the closest hospital is located across the lake in Solola.
