Nebaj and the surrounding area has a lot of activities to offer, depending on the amount of time and interests you have. The town square is often quite lively and a good place to see some excellent examples of the Nebaj women’s traditional dress. Foodies should sample boxboles, a traditional meal from the Ixil made from folding guiskil leaves inside a maize dough. Those looking to unwind should try a temascal sauna to cleanse the mind, body and soul. If you have more time, you can organize a homestay with an indigenous or ladino family, help them collect and cut firewood, make tortillas and learn about local agriculture. There are a number of volunteer opportunities, as well.
