Albores Biosphere Reserve

Los Albores is a small area located deep in the heart of the Sierra de las Minas. It is also known as the 'Zona Nucleo'. At an altitude of about 2,540m above sea level, this part of the reserve is only open to scientists, ecological researches and some ecotourists. It can be more difficult to access than other parts and it is preferred that visitors notify the FundaciĆ³n Defensores de la Naturaleza if they intend to go to Los Albores. One of the more protected regions of the reserve, Los Albores is a center of research on the various forest types and rare animal species that live there. There is some comfortable cabaƱa accommodation available in Albores; all are well equipped and each cabaƱa holds up to 12 people. Again make sure you are well kitted out for all weather conditions and don't forget the insect repellent. Forest sports or family activities will not be found here, so if that's what you are looking for than best head elsewhere in the Sierra de las Minas.
