One of the things you have to do when you are in Antigua is climb an active volcano. There are two of them, one of them being too dangerous to climb, but the one called Pacaya is open for adventure. We advise you to go with a tour, because not only may the volcano be dangerous, but muggers can be active as well. You will find many tourist offices who will offer trips to Pacaya, so it won’t be a problem getting your tour. It is smart to check out several places because the prizes can vary. If you want to make the climb on horseback you can get this “taxi”, as the locals call them, on the beginning of the climb. Make sure you bargain, because every man and horse have their own price.

Getting there: book a tour via one of the many tour agencies. Going by yourself is not advised.

Price description: about 100 Quetzal for a complete tour with transportation, horseback, depending on the season, about 80 Quetzal for getting up to the volcano.
