Zona 4, Guatemala City

Zona 4 is one of the most interesting of Guatemala City's zones, and it has a wide variety of attractions for the traveler. One of the most popular is Cuatro Grados Norte (four degrees north), which is a pedestrian and green area with restaurants, bars, galleries and cultural centers. The Centro Cultural de España / Guatemala, for example, continuously has exhibitions, workshops for children and adults and more.

Many important buildings are also in Zona 4; in fact, INGUAT (Guatemalan Tourism Institute) has its main offices there. There is also the Centro Cívico and its government buildings: the Banco de Guatemala, Palacio de la Justicia, Municipalidad de Guatemala (City Hall), and others.

The largest and most important theater and cultural center in the country, the Centro Cultural Miguel Ángel Asturias (or Teatro Nacional), is located in the zone. This large and beautiful theater was built by Efraín Recinos, one of the most respected artists in Guatemala today. There are many activities and presentations all the year round. It also houses some art schools and a school of marimba is being built on the premises. Make sure to check the website of this center. You will not regret it.

If you arrive by “chicken bus” to Guatemala City, it is highly probable that you will end up in La Terminal de la Zona 4, the largest market in the country. It is an agglomeration of stores, buses and people.
