In the past, Chiquimulilla was something of a cowboy town with good leather products for sale, but nowadays it is just another town. It is still possible to find a couple of shops selling cowboy boots or saddles. For most travelers, Chiquimullia will only be a staging stop on the way to or from El Salvador.

The bus station at the Mercado Terminal is in the southern end of town, seven blocks from Parque Central. Buses will often drop off here and then carry on further into town, a little closer to the accommodation options, otherwise a tuk-tuk around town costs $0.30. The main road leading up from the Mercado Terminal is called Colonia Vista Hermosa or 4a Avenue. A couple of blocks up this road, on 5 Calle, Hotel Vital has unremarkable rooms for $6 p.p. Two blocks past here, on 3 Calle, is Hotel San Carlos with considerably more comfortable rooms including cable TV for $10 (one person) or $12.50 (two people) and a cafeteria.

On the corner of 4a Avenue and 5 Calle is Café Don Carlos, a lovely, inexpensive, European-style café serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and cappuccino from 7.30 a.m. till 8 p.m. every day except Sundays. Restaurant El Bambu is on the main road coming into town, next to La Fontaine Pizza, and has typical Guatemalan dishes including lots of meat and seafood specialties. It is open from 7 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. Outside here is the main bus stop in town.

Internet cafés, banks and ATM’s can all be found on 1a Avenue around Parque Central. The street market is up here as well and a good place as any other to go for a wander. There is a medical clinic around the corner from Café Don Carlos.

Other places nearby Chiquimulilla: Chulamar, Guatemala's Pacific Coast, Retalhuleu, Champerico, Tilapa & Tilapita, Taxisco, Puerto San Jose, La Democracia, Cuilapa and Santa LucĂa Cotzumalguapa.
