Apart from the Parque Central and the theater, there is little to see in Xela. You will have to get out of the city to visit the different villages, hot springs and, local markets. If you’re into hiking, there is a large choice. You can climb either Volcan Tajumulco, Santa Maria or Laguna de Chicabal. Another option is to go cycling along Guatemalan’s bumpy roads. Xela is a great place too to learn salsa dancing and do some yoga. Visitors who have more time can take Spanish and K’iche (Mayan language) lessons in one of the numerous language schools, or volunteer for an NGO.
