What goes better than three locales together, one dealing in used books, one peddling great food and cheap beer, and the last introducing bootlegged tequilas and mezcals from Mexico to the palates of wide-eyed gringuitos that walk all the way to the ever dimmer back? "Yo bro, I totally just pounded one out of a bottle with a friggin' scorpion at the bottom." Well, probably quite a lot, but say that after a drink and expect to be escorted nicely yet briskly out.
But for a different night, a bit outside the center of Antigua Guatemala, Café No Sé is a place where, depending on the night you could sip coffee and listen to some live light jazz or blues and the next get threatened by an overly indulged expat, the marvels of mezcal twinkling in his deranged eyes (this rarely happens, yet the establishment is full of mostly eccentric expats). Eat a pinch of chillied grasshoppers with some lime to wash down the grog, play with friendly dogs (Pulque, Anoche, Alfombra and Feo), and marvel at the unique rules and selling points on their advertisements (uncomfortable chairs, deviant behavior, bad attitudes, no ugly women, great coffee, deranged staff). No matter how they advertize, this joint is a blast, and now carries its own brand of "illegal" mezcal. Do not miss its Sunday brunch.

Café No Sé is one of those odd little places run by strange American ex-pats and frequented by strange American ex-pats. It is a perfect example of a dirty jewel in Antigua's crown. If you're in Antigua you really can't miss it.
