It is a picturesque 33 kilometer-drive (20.5 miles) out to the border-crossing with El Salvador at Anguiatú. The majority of nationalities can purchase a visa at the gate but always check before setting off. The border gate is open 24-hours but being rather remote for safety reasons it would be advisable to arrive here well before sun-down to make sure you are not stuck on the other side. There are a few restaurants near the border and along the road there is a coffee shop and a Banrural (no ATM) six kilometers (four miles) away from the border, and Joe’s Pizza ten kilometers (six miles) away, Tel: 502-7942-8752. Buses from Esquipulas leave about every 30 minutes, or sooner if full, and the journey takes an hour.
